Decibel новый фреймворк для KDE 4. Decibel интегрирует все коммуникационные протоколы. В данное время все контакты распределы по разным приложениям: AOL, MSN, E-mail, Skype, и т.д. Decibel собирает все контакты воедино, упрощая пользователю управление и общение.

Например, А хочет поговорить с Б. А запрашивает соединение с Б, менеджер сервисов обрабатывает запрос, выбирает лучший способ соединиться с Б (в зависимости от телефонного номера, почтового ящика, и т.д.) и открывает соединение с Б. Таким образом, А общается с Б независимо от лучшего для соединения протокола.

Decibel не был готов к выпуску KDE 4.0. Планируется включить его в 4.2 и интегрировать с Kopete и Pidgin
