PubMed — текстовая база данных медицинских и биологических публикаций на английском языке, на основе раздела «биотехнология» Национальной медицинской библиотеки США (англ.)русск. (NLM)[1]. База данных была разработана Национальным центром биотехнологической информации (NCBI). PubMed является бесплатной версией базы данных MEDLINE. PubMed впервые был представлен в январе 1996 года[2].

База данных доступна через NCBI-Entrez (англ.)русск., центральную поисковую систему важнейших медицинских баз данных, включающую PubMed, PubChem и другие.

PubMed документирует медицинские и биологические статьи из специальной литературы, а также дает ссылки на полнотекстовые статьи. PubMed включает в себя данные из следующих областей: медицина, стоматология, ветеринария, общее здравоохранение, психология, биология, генетика, биохимия, цитология, биотехнология, биомедицина и т. д. Документировано около 3800 биомедицинских изданий. Ежегодно база данных PubMed увеличивается на 500 000 документов. Поиск происходит по принципу Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

Каждой статье присваивается идентификационный номер PubMed-ID (PMID).
